“The Immune System” the Silent Sentinels Protecting You 24/7!

“Immunity” is something the body cannot live without.
Did you know…? The immune system is a silent army that operates 24 hours every day, protecting our bodies from pathogens, infections, and foreign substances.

What Comprises the Immune System?

Components of the immune system are distributed throughout the body. From the tonsils, lymph nodes, spleen, and bone marrow to the intestines, white blood cells (WBCs) serve as the system’s core. Each type of white blood cell performs a different function; for example,

  • Neutrophils / Monocytes (Macrophages) → “Swallowing” (enveloping) and destroying pathogens
  • Eosinophils → Fighting parasites and infections
  • Basophils → Releasing histamine during inflammations
  • Lymphocytes (T&B cells) → Specific countermeasures against each type of pathogen
  • Plasma cells → Producing antibodies

The 3 Main Layers of Protection

  1. Barrier ( initial layer of protection) – Skin, mucous membranes, stomach acids, and probiotics in the intestine “block and prevent pathogens from entering.”
  2. Innate Immunity – WBCs (such as Neutrophils, Macrophages) enter to immediately neutralize foreign bodies.
  3. Acquired Immunity – once exposed to a pathogen, the body remembers it and produces antibodies to prevent reinfection.

A Strong Immune System = Good Nutrition Don’t forget to include “immune-supporting nutrients,” such as

  • High quality protein (To produce white blood cells and antibodies)
  • Vitamin C, D, E and Zinc (To promote proper immune cells functioning)
  • Fiber and probiotics (To promote healthy gut microbiome, which is the first layer of protection of the body)

Because a strong immune system doesn’t come from luck, but from properly caring for your body every day.
